The Future is Bright for an Upcoming Graduate

Graduation day is almost here for Ramona High School students, and one hard-working student needs to wear sunglasses because her future is so bright.

Hannah Ferguson, 18, a senior at Ramona High School, graduates on June 6 and will be able to celebrate all she has achieved these last few years. Ferguson has a long list of accomplishments and was crowned Miss Ramona in November 2023.

Throughout her High School career, she took classes through Mountain Valley Academy, Ramona High School and some Dual Enrollment courses through Palomar College, which included two college English classes at night at Ramona Community Campus, and two online history classes and one math class at the San Marcos Campus.

All her hard work paid off and she was accepted to two schools: Cal Poly University, which was her dream school, and Montana State University. She had to make a tough decision on which school to attend, so she flew to Montana and fell in love with the community, the atmosphere and the chance to have a brand-new start.

Montana State University offers Bioengineering at the Norm Asbjornson Hall, the major she plans to pursue. She will study genetics and work toward the pre-med path with the goal of attending medical school afterward.

Ramona High School Awards night was Thursday, May 16, and she received the California State Biliteracy Achievement Award and the Summa Cum Laude Award for maintaining a GPA above a 4.2. She was also awarded the Female Athlete Scholar Award.

Ramona High School Scholarship night was May 23, and she was awarded the following scholarships: The Friends of the Ramona Library Scholarship in Memory of Dick Wayman; The Karma and Abba McCalister Scholarship; Ramona High School PTSA Scholarship; Soroptimist International of Ramona Scholarship; Sun Valley Council of PTA Scholarship; Ramona Women's Clinic Scholarship; Ramona Chamber of Commerce Scholarship and the ACSA Region 18 Palomar Charter Scholarship. She was also awarded the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship from Montana State University, which cuts out-of-state tuition off the top, meaning she will be only charged the equivalent of in-state tuition.

She will receive her Miss Ramona Scholarship at the end of her reign in November 2024. The scholarship is called the 678 Scholarship and is granted to her for her service throughout her reign.

She has been very active in sports at RHS and is the tennis team captain. They won the Palomar League as a team and had five girls, including Ferguson, go to the California Interscholastic Federation, also known as CIF. Their team qualified for the D1 Team CIF, and they were really excited to compete and be ranked among the top girls in San Diego. In 2022-23, she played on the RHS girls basketball team and received the Joe Bess Coaches award. The following spring season, she was also on the track team.

She is the Vice President of the Ramona Junior Chamber of Commerce through the high school and a member of the National Honor Society. She was the Mountain Valley Academy ASB President for 2022-23 and served as a student board representative. She sat in school board meetings and represented the school and student body. She was a voice for the students in the district.

She has been a tutor for six years, since 7th grade. She mainly tutors mathematics but also helps out in other subjects. She started helping family and friends, and her business exploded during the pandemic because families needed help teaching their children. She made a lot of Zoom calls while staying in line with the pandemic regulations, and her job has been very rewarding.

Hannah and her sister Ingrid Ferguson founded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at RHS and hold weekly meetings, leading students in bible studies with members and students to benefit the community.

The things she has loved most about being a student at RHS are being able to have the stereotypical high school experience by attending football games, being involved with the community and having wonderful coaches and teachers. She gives a shoutout to her tennis coach, Troy Romero, who she says is the best.

Ferguson is looking forward to what the future has in store for her. All the doors are open to her, and she can choose whatever path she wishes to take. She is very excited about the opportunities that await her.
