Matt Brumbaugh: The PGA Golf Pro Behind the Game

Tiffany Pressler • April 9, 2025

PGA Professional Matt Brumbaugh brings leadership, enthusiasm, and expertise to San Vicente Resort, creating a welcoming environment for golfers of all ages and levels.

As the Head Golf Professional at San Vicente Resort, Matt Brumbaugh oversees all golf operations, including daily play, tournament facilitation, Golf Shop merchandising and sales, and Golf Club membership activities and engagement. San Vicente is a semi-private facility, requiring a balance between the needs of golf members, lodge guests, and outside play.

Matt has over twenty-five years of experience and has been in his position for over five years. He manages a team of 15 staff members, 75 golf carts, a driving range, practice hole, putting green, and a 110-acre golf course that sees over 40,000 rounds of golf annually. Instruction is a core part of his role, offering lessons to all ages and skill levels. His expertise and leadership in merchandising and sales at the golf shop ensure a complete range of golf equipment and apparel.

Highlights:

  • Golf Memberships have increased from 230 to 300 plus since he arrived in 2020. When you include family, we have over 500 golfing members.
  • The Junior Golf Program has over 40 participants aged 6-14 that attend weekly clinics. PGA Junior League runs May – June (40 Juniors competing weekly on the golf course).
  • Twilight League was very successful in 2024, bringing new golfers to San Vicente—13 weeks with 60-80 participants, every Thursday at 5 pm (9-hole fun format)
  • Fiesta on the Fairway – Friday, May 2, 1 pm Shotgun start. It is a fun format with contests for the most festive outfits, closest to the pin, team awards, and TACOS after the round.

Matt enjoys the people-centered nature of his work. He finds the job rewarding because it combines his passion for playing and teaching golf with the opportunity to be around others who share his enthusiasm and gain confidence in their playing abilities.

It’s important for him to engage golfers in a game they are comfortable with while also challenging them to improve, so there are a variety of golf experiences to choose from for various age ranges. Junior Golf is filled with young students learning the game, and golf club members bring experience and a passion for recreation, competition, and camaraderie. Day players, groups, and tournament golfers bring a range of skills, competition, and enjoyment to the game. Casual golfers can appreciate nine-hole games like afternoon Twilight Golf in the summer and Ladies Nine and Wine, all open to the public.

Matt makes a point of connecting with golfers to personalize their experience and foster a welcoming, engaging environment. He strives to ensure everyone who visits San Vicente Resort has an enjoyable and welcoming experience, regardless of their skill level. His goal is to make the game approachable and enjoyable for all.

He believes that everyone can appreciate golf, regardless of their experience. He likens learning golf to skiing—having the right guidance can make all the difference. As the golf lead, he is committed to supporting current and prospective golfers. He encourages questions about memberships and lessons, and values being accessible and responsive.

Outside of work, Matt and his wife are avid travelers and food enthusiasts. They enjoy exploring new cuisines, including seafood, sushi, and Himalayan dishes, and regularly take trips to places like Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, Monterey, and Santa Monica to visit family.

As empty nesters, he and his wife now treasure their time together, reflecting fondly on the years spent raising their children and attending their activities.

With Matt in charge, every day at the course is infused with professionalism, an open invitation to improve your game, and a truly enjoyable experience.
