When it comes to running a business, bookkeeping is often the thing business owners dread most. But for San Diego Country Estates resident Teri Knowles, it’s her passion. Teri officially started her bookkeeping business, Knowles Bookkeeping, a year ago after 14 years as a registered dental assistant at an orthodontist's office. Now, she helps business owners save money, time, and a lot of headaches.
Teri specializes in small businesses and loves to help entrepreneurs grow and succeed. “A lot of these business owners work all day only to have to come home to do their books instead of spending time with their family. And their kids are watching them work seven days a week. But the whole idea behind having your own business is supposed to be more time and freedom and to leave a legacy for your kids.” She enjoys the ability to lift the burden of the books so business owners can find time to relax while she crunches the numbers.
Understanding that every business is personal and needs special care, Teri doesn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. “I always do a discovery call with my clients before we start working together. I let them tell me about their business, and they usually tell me everything I need to know to help them during that first call.”
Knowles Bookkeeping is a no-judgement, shame-free zone. “I don’t care what you spend your money on. I’m just here to support you so you can save your business.” And because Teri comes in with a fresh set of eyes, she’s able to easily spot areas where money can be saved, errors have occurred, or the numbers don’t add up. It might sound daunting to some, but Teri often finds peace while organizing chaos. “I always tell my clients they don’t need to apologize to me for mistakes that were made. I’m just here to help. And I love to do cleanups. It’s very calming for me.” It’s also calming for the business owners she works with. “I declutter their books and get them organized so that when they’re looking at the reports, everything is in its proper place, and it all makes sense.”
Teri wants to remind everyone that March 15 is the tax filing and extension request deadline for S Corps and partnerships. In addition, she says it’s important to have your accounts reconciled every month. “Having someone do your books and monthly reports is a big deal because you get your balance sheet and profits and losses. From those, you’re able to see the exact health of your business. I feel like the only way to make your business successful is knowing exactly what’s happening in it.”
With a compassionate approach and meticulous attention to detail, Teri helps her clients reclaim their time, save money and achieve peace of mind. As tax deadlines loom and business operations continue, her reminder to prioritize organized financials rings true. “Having organized financials is the key to success.” With Knowles Bookkeeping, you can steer your business toward success, knowing that your financial foundation is in capable hands.
