Proactive Fire Safety: Strengthening Our Landscape for Protection

The Landscape/Open Space Department is taking significant strides in fire fuel abatement to enhance safety and resilience across our community.

With a dedicated budget increase from $75,000 in 2024 to $150,000 this year, we are investing more in fire fuel reduction than at any point in the past 50 years. Strategic planning, guided by the Fire Safety Committee, prioritizes clearing high-risk areas, establishing firebreaks, and maintaining a 100-ft clearance around structures where people live. The east end of the Estates, a known fire-prone zone during Santa Ana winds, has seen the most extensive work.


Managing approximately 1,400 acres of open space, much of it on steep, inaccessible terrain, presents an ongoing challenge. Our four-person Open Space Team is working diligently, supplemented by external professionals funded through the budget increase.


Homeowners play a crucial role in fire safety by clearing their own lots and responding to Association and Cal Fire notices. Articles filled with important information related to maintaining a 100-ft clearance and fire safety are published to inform.
