Landscape Team: Beautification Updates

Nancy Zadrozny, Landscape Manager • April 25, 2024

Beautification Continues in our community.

The Landscape Team continues its work to ensure our spaces are well-maintained and aesthetically appealing. Mother Nature ensures the spring flowers, some which were planted last year, bloom beautifully.

Monument Sign: A Beautiful Welcome

The San Vicente Resort monument sign is springing to life with flowers. A combination of evergreen foundation plants plays well with spring annuals and bulbs in full bloom. Summer heat-tolerant flowers will follow as the long-term shrubs fill in the spaces for years of beauty with much less maintenance.

CRD Building: Full of Color

Poppies and lavender are thriving in the new garden area outside the building. Drought-tolerant and native plants were placed with a drip irrigation system as part of the ongoing Turf Reduction Project.

Golf Course Cart Path: Slope Remodel

While the golf course was closed for aeration April 15-17, the Landscape Team cleared and replanted the slope south of the pool, behind the Snack Bar.

Old tree stumps, ancient overgrown ice plants and weedy areas were removed and replanted with trees, shrubs and low-growing slope-stabilizing ground cover. Most plants are native, and all are drought-tolerant. A drip system was installed for water efficiency and reduced maintenance issues on the tricky-to-maintain steep slope.

Ramona Oaks Park Pool: Garden Area

The Ramona Oaks Park pool area is being renovated and is expected to be completed by May 3. Old plants were removed, and a garden was cultivated around the perimeter of the pool. The old concrete and rock area—possibly an original fountain 50 years ago but long since abandoned—was removed, and a new retaining wall around the oak was installed by landscape staff. Fresh sod was added for a larger seating area on the grass. Planting includes native grasses, abelia shrubs and gazanias for a pop of color.

The pool deck is in the process of being resurfaced and will finish next week.
