Hugo Valdes: Employee of the Month for August

Greenskeeping team member Hugo Valdes is recognized as Employee of the Month for August.

Hugo Valdes joined the Golf Course Maintenance Department in December 2009. He tried his hand at various things, including construction, before landing as a greenskeeper here at San Vicente Golf Resort. He is now being celebrated for his hard work and contribution to our team.

Golf Course Superintendent Scott Walwyn says, “Hugo has done just about everything there is to do in golf maintenance,” and he trusts him to operate any equipment carefully and efficiently. “Now, having said that, when he aerifies the fairways, he has occasionally hit a flagged irrigation head. His response is always, ‘disculpame.’ Translation: ‘Forgive me,’” says Walwyn.

Walwyn also says Hugo is a good guy - very reliable, dependable and uses initiative. He has a great sense of humor and is fun to have around. Walwyn has learned he can count on Hugo not only for his experience at the San Vicente Golf Resort but also for any operation that needs to be accomplished. “I appreciate his perseverance and his attitude,” says Walwyn. “He gets things done!”

When he is not at work, Hugo enjoys hiking in the foothills around San Diego, relaxing, and watching movies. He has been with SDCEA for roughly 15 years and enjoys the job, the crew, and the golf course.

“I am proud to recommend Hugo as the employee of the month here in golf maintenance,” says Walwyn. Congratulations, Hugo. Your hard work and dedication are truly commendable, and we are excited to celebrate your fantastic accomplishment.
