Seniors at Ramona High School prepare to make their final walk together to commemorate their achievements and success over the last four years.
In three weeks, 335 Ramona High School Seniors will celebrate the end of their high school careers and embark on a new chapter in their lives. This graduation will be the first for these students because they were unable to have an 8th grade promotional ceremony during the time of COVID. These kids started their freshman year online and didn’t return to normal in-person classes until their sophomore year.
RHS Principal and San Diego Country Estates resident Antoinette Rodriguez says that it takes 225 credits to graduate, and students need to be successful in all their classes, including math, English, science, social science, and electives such as welding, agriculture, engineering, or dance, among others. These choices reflect the unique interests and talents of each student.
It’s normal for students to feel nervous and anxious about transitioning from high school into the real world. What comes next? It will be different for each student; some will enter college, join the military, or go straight into the workforce. Many kids don’t know what the next step will be, and that’s okay. For others, the next step might be attending a junior college for a couple of years or starting a job in education to work with kids. There is a lot on their plate, and it’s coming to an end. It’s right here, right now.
The seniors have several events to look forward to at the end of the year, including their Senior Excursion to Knotts Berry Farm, Awards Night for local scholarships and Prom.
They also have some fun activities planned for the last week of school, such as the Senior Breakfast and Senior Walk, where the seniors walk in their graduation caps and gowns through the High School, Middle School, and a few elementary schools. On that Wednesday, they have graduation practice.
Rodriguez says she has enjoyed guiding these kids for the last four years, and it’s generational because she has taught the parents of some of these graduation students. “It’s a family town.”
The students will dress for success as they graduate at this formal event. The boys will wear slacks, ties or collared shirts, and the girls will wear dresses and heels.
Congratulations to the two co-valedictorians, David Palomino and Emma Beck, and the salutatorian, Dillion Day.
The next journey is upon them, and each student’s path into life will be different. We wish our Ramona graduates well in all their future endeavors.
