Fire Abatement: Easement Maintenance

Joshua Jones, Assistant General Manager • July 10, 2024

The importance of clearing easements in fire safety.

Maintaining a fire-defensible space around homes and structures is key to ensuring a robust barrier against wildfires. Like landscaping, it is important to regularly maintain easements between properties.  As a courtesy, the Association provides clearing only once per year and that is usually after the rainy season.

Each homeowner is responsible to maintain the easement that is on their property. Not all properties have an easement, you can reference the Horse Trail Map available on our website, or check with CRD at 760-789-8747 or CRDdept@sdcea.net.

Maintaining your easement entails regular trimming of plants, shrubs, and trees to ensure unobstructed access through the easement. Grasses and plants should be maintained at a height of 4 inches or less, and trees trimmed to maintain a clearance of 13 feet 6 inches from the ground. Dead vegetation must also be removed.
