Staff and clients gathered at Always Sunny this week for their holiday party filled with fun, fellowship, and holiday magic.
The spirit of the holiday season was alive and well at the Always Sunny holiday party, which saw approximately 40 attendees, including joyful staff members and cherished clients. The event was a delightful affair filled with cookies, snacks, desserts, and festive Christmas punch, all complemented by enchanting holiday music performed by the talented Dana Durlap.
The celebration featured a variety of engaging games, such as a Christmas tree bean bag toss and a candy cane fishing game. Physical activities are beneficial for mobility, and these games added a playful spirit to the festivities and encouraged interaction among guests.
Owner Janna York emphasized the importance of events like these, noting that they provide seniors with a sense of inclusion and significance. "Many seniors can feel isolated, and being here for the holiday party makes them feel important," she shared. Always Sunny acts as a bridge, connecting clients from diverse backgrounds and traditions.
York expressed her desire to help seniors create new memories while acknowledging the nostalgia that often comes with the holiday season. Participants played a crucial role in preparing for the celebration, discussing games and baking cookies as part of their project. Each client left the event with a special gift, adding to their holiday cheer.
Looking ahead to 2025, York hopes to increase the number of clients. Although Always Sunny is licensed for 60 clients, her aim is to cultivate a smaller, more intimate community with increased engagement. Many of her clients no longer drive and come for connection, finding joy and companionship rather than spending their days in front of the television.
The program incorporates stimulating card and word games that keep minds sharp while fostering camaraderie among participants. "We are family," York stated, highlighting the strong bonds formed within the community. This familial atmosphere was evident when one caregiver, who recently welcomed a new baby, brought the little one to the party, bringing smiles to everyone's faces.
The cost of care can often be a concern, but Always Sunny offers its services at half the cost of typical home care, making it an accessible option for families in need of support.
Tom Morgan, a newer member who joined the group five months ago, expressed his satisfaction with the holiday party, noting a larger turnout than he had previously witnessed. "They did a really good job helping everybody," he commented enthusiastically. Pete Spates, who has known the performing musician for a while, also shared his excitement: "It's pretty awesome." His favorite part was the activity in general, making the event so fun.
The Always Sunny holiday party was more than just a celebration; it was a heartfelt gathering that reinforced the importance of community and connection during the holiday season. Here's to many more joyful memories in the years to come!
